The NATO Space COE inauguration

Monday 19 January 2026 – A defining moment in the history of the NATO Space Centre of Excellence!

In a joint ribbon-cutting ceremony, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Amiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of the French Air and Space Force Général Jérôme Bellanger, and NATO Space COE Director Colonel Sylvain Debarre, officially inaugurated the Centre of Excellence facility — a powerful symbol, signaling a new chapter for the NATO Space COE.

This milestone shortly follows the anniversary of an equally significant event – that of 18 January 2023 when the COE Memorandum of Understanding was signed by its 15 Sponsoring Nations, laying its institutional foundations.

After three years of steady growth, the Centre is proud to announce that 2026 is the year in which it reaches Full Operational Capability! This achievement reflects the collective commitment, expertise, and vision of all sponsoring nations and personnel contributing to the NATO Space COE mission!

Together, we move forward thanks to the commitment and collaboration of the NATO Space COE’s multinational workforce!
