Doctrine and Standardization

This pillar explains how to apply the Space concepts previously analyzed in a standardized way for all NATO nations.

What’s its role?

The Doctrine and Standardization (D&S) division supports multinational efforts to developing doctrines, publications, and other documents in order to facilitate common understanding in fulfilling Space activities in every operational environment.

In particular, D&S is responsible for creating the doctrinal framework for Space. In April 2024, it assumed custodianship of NATO Space Doctrine Allied Joint Publication (AJP) 3.29, with the goal of publication by 2026.

D&S also works to support Space integration within other standards such as ATP 102 and NATO NAVWAR doctrine, ensuring that links with AJP 3.29 are correctly identified and incorporated.

This pillar strengthens our understanding of coherent Space guideline:

  • Being the custodian of NATO’s Space doctrine.
  • Contributing to the development of its policies.
  • Ensuring a collaborative and standardized approach.
