What is its role?
The Concept, Development and Experimentation (CD&E) Division monitors and analyses new trends, strategies, processes, procedures and methodologies, and informs organisations’ concept development processes.
CD&E focuses on future Space concepts and capabilities that are of interest to NATO and its partners, with activities including wargaming and concept validation through experimentation. Within the Space Domain, data sharing and interoperability present key challenges for NATO.
To address these issues, CD&E monitors space trends, explores innovative Space concepts and capabilities and supports the Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXploration, eXperimentation, eXamination eXercise (CWIX).
Additionally, as part of the Space Tiger Team, CD&E contributes to the Federated Mission Networking (FMN) initiative by defining procedural instructions for key elements such as the Recognised Space Picture.
This division is home to our analytical force, and conducts prospective monitoring for spatial concepts:
- Monitoring technological trends in the Space domain.
- Identifying future Space capabilities of interest for NATO.
- Analysing new strategies and methodologies.
