Signature of the NATO Space COE’s Functional Memorandum of Understanding

On June 13, 2025: the NATO Space COE reached another significant milestone as its Sponsoring Nations were invited for the signature of the COE’s Functional Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) during a dedicated ceremony in Norfolk, USA.

Looking Back: the Initial Stage:
On January 18, 2023, the NATO Space COE’s Sponsoring Nations signed the Operational MOU, which laid the foundation for the COE’s establishment.
This document marked the starting point of our journey, defining the structure and scope of our activities.

Another Key Step Forward:
This ceremony of June 13 2025, for signing the Functional MOU represents another critical achievement in the COE’s development!
This document formalizes the functional relationship between the COE and NATO HQ SACT, particularly SACT’s role in coordinating and employing the COE within NATO, in coordination with the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).

The signing of this MOU by the HQ SACT and the Sponsoring Nations marks the final step in the COE’s Establishment and Accreditation Process, solidifying its role within the NATO framework!

With this milestone, the NATO Space COE signs another fundamental step towards reinforcing its commitment to support the evolution of the space domain in NATO.
