The CBC – Cybersecurity Business Convention is a two-day professional event dedicated to cybersecurity, with this year a specific focus on the space sector through CYSAT. It brings together experts, companies, public authorities, startups, and emerging talent.

During his keynote, the Director presented the mission of the NATO Space Centre of Excellence and highlighted the key challenges of space and cybersecurity, explaining the close and strategic links that connect both domains and exploring future perspectives.

During the event, the Director of the NATO Space COE, Sylvain DEBARRE, had the pleasure of being interviewed by La Tribune, sharing insights on space security, including:

• the NATO Space Centre of Excellence’s role and its missions in the international space landscape,
• the essential contribution of the NATO Space COE to the NATO space doctrine currently in preparation.

The NATO Space COE participated in the 55th Joint SCI/SET Panel Business Meeting in Olomouc, Czechia.

Those panels are about:
– Systems Concepts and Integration (SCI)
– Sensors and Electronics Technology (SET)

Lieutenant Colonel Andrea Console, our Chief of Staff, presented the NATO Space COE to the SCI/SET Community, focusing on fostering synergies in alignment with the respective programs of work and NATO priorities.

The Space Operations Summit event brought together global leaders from industry, government, academia, and space commands to exchange insights on the evolving challenges and opportunities in the space domain.
Discussions and networking throughout the Summit reaffirmed the vital role of space in contemporary defence operations.

The NATO Space COE Director, Colonel Sylvain DEBARRE, delivered a presentation outlining the mission, objectives, and contributions of the NATO Space COE in support of the Alliance.

Engagements like these underscore the growing international commitment to space security and the importance of collaboration in shaping the future of space operations!

The NATO Space COE was a speaker at the NATO Use of Civil Standards Workshop held at the Hellenic Armed Forces Officers Club in Athens, Greece, 11-13 February.

On February 12th, the NATO Space COE Director, Colonel Sylvain DEBARRE, contributed to the seminar “Perspectives Spatiales,” organized by GIFAS (Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales) and Novaspace Summits, during a panel dedicated to Space Military in an international context.

This great event gathered Space Leaders from the Space Industry, national and institutional entities, as well as military bodies!

The main theme was ‘Co-creation Amidst Threats – Acquiring Practical Skills to Tackle Today’s Challenges with Technology and Collaboration.’ The conference was insightful and thought-provoking, providing an excellent opportunity to connect with institutes and companies focused on cyber defence.

The event culminated, on its second day, with the visit of the Japanese Minister of Defence, General Nakatani.

Lieutenant Colonel Andrea, Chief of Staff of the NATO Space COE, participated in the third panel on the second day, which was dedicated to “Critical Infrastructure Protection – Communication & Information System: Identifying Cyber Threats and Promoting Resilience for Satellite Communications (SATCOM).” In his speech, together with other distinguished panellists, he detailed the cyber threat landscape for SATCOM and explored practical solutions to mitigate the risks from hostile actions.

From the 30 to 31 of October the NATO Space COE Director, Colonel Debarre, was speaker during the XXXIII International Seminar hosted by the Spanish Air and Space Force in Madrid, Spain, dealing with “Space as an operational domain”.

This event gathered several key Space Military leaders, including former SACT, General Lavigne.

 During the panel “The Space from the perspective of the Security and Defense International Organizations”, Colonel Debarre presented the NATO Space COE and highlighted the necessity to develop interoperability in Space!

The NATO Space COE was honored to participate in the 6th Mountain Warfare Congress, held from October 21-24, 2024, with the theme ‘Mountain Warfare 2040.’

Our focus was to underscore the essential role of space capabilities in enhancing mountain warfare strategies. Lieutenant Colonel Andrea Console, Chief of Staff of the NATO Space COE, took the stage to share valuable insights on the synergies between space and mountain operations. He emphasized how these connections can be effectively leveraged by the Alliance to advance multi-domain operations.

The presentation during the conference about “Defense Activities in Space Securities and NATO” highlighted our ramp-up phase, organization, and capability!

This business travel with NATO HQ and NATO Space Operations Centre, was the occasion to meet high level Japanese spatial actors:

• Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
• Ministry of Defense;
• Japanese Space Operations Group.

Discussions provided opportunity to present the NATO Space COE activities and potential synergies with Japan.
