From 27 to 28 May, the 15 sponsoring nations of the NATO Space COE convened in Toulouse, France, for the biannual Steering Committee meeting.

We were also pleased to have NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) participate in an observer capacity.

As always, the meeting was instrumental in enabling key decisions that shape the operation and strategic direction of the NATO Space COE.

With strong collaboration and a shared vision, we look forward to tackling the many exciting projects that lie ahead!

Steering Committee #5

From the 18th to the 19th of November, the NATO Space COE hosted its 5th Steering Committee, bringing together representatives from the 15 sponsoring nations.

The discussions were highly productive and highlighted the significant progress made by the Centre as it continues its ramp-up phase. This meeting was a valuable opportunity to align efforts, share perspectives, and strengthen the collective commitment to advancing NATO’s capabilities in the Space domain.

Representatives from NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and USA participated as observers as well.

A big thank you to all participants for their constructive contributions and for driving forward our shared mission. Together, we’re setting the foundation for a stronger, more innovative, and resilient NATO in Space.

From 10th to 11th of June 2024, the NATO Space COE organized its Steering Committee, gathering all of its 15 Sponsoring Nations.

NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) participated as observers as well.

This must-attend meeting is essential to:

  • report the Space COE activities to Nations,
  • approve projects and budgets,
  • define guidance from the Nations.

Third Steering Committee

From the 18th to the 19th of November, the NATO Space COE hosted its 5th Steering Committee, bringing together representatives from the 15 sponsoring nations.

The 15 national representatives of the Sponsoring Nations and Space Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), came together to get informed about the development of the NATO Space COE and to validate the important documents and plannings for 2024.

During the conference, the Roadmap for the upcoming year (Program of Work) with all planned activities where discussed, balanced with the planned budget and finally approved by the Nations.

As an example, the NATO Space COE will again participate in exercises in 2024 for the benefit of NATO and its Allies, and will strengthen our responsibility to plan and act as Enemy/RED Forces in different exercises to increase the awareness of commanders which action must be taken in the different domains to protect access to space capabilities and maintain lethality on the battlefield.

This meeting was a moment of exchange to agree and continue to provide expertise on Space domain to the benefit of NATO and its Allies. We are looking forward to an eventful and exiting year 2024.

In addition, the NATO Space COE is glad to announce that the Nations approved his Motto: “Per Excellentiam Ad Astra” (Through Excellence to the Stars) !

Second Steering Committee

On 7th and 8th June, the second Steering Committee was held in Toulouse, chaired by Brigadier-General (retired) Testé (FRA).

All 15 national representatives and Space SME’s from ACO and ACT came together to get informed about the status of the NATO Space COE and to took strategic decisions for the upcoming milestones.

Regularly exchanges in advance and lots of discussions during the event guaranteed a maximum of transparency about ongoing projects and planned events of the NATO Space COE to the sponsoring nations.
